The Toymaker is the third entry in the popular Robert the Doll film series, it was shot in Cardiff in Autumn 2016 and was first released in the UK by 4Digital on August 21st 2017, and in North America through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as a Walmart exclusive from September 5th to Octover 31st, under the title Robert and the Toymaker. International releases included Brazil on November 15th 2017 with Frighten Entertainment and Germany on November 23rd 2018 with DareDo. The film charted on Tesco (#20), HMV (#3 → #6), and Morrisons (#25, later Best Sellers). Footage aired on Lisa Cannon’s Box Office on TV3e, broadcast by Virgin Media in Ireland on September 28th, at the same time the film became available on Virgin TV as well as Sky Cinema. The franchise spans six films, beginning with Robert the Doll (2015), followed by The Curse of Robert the Doll (2016), Robert and the Toymaker (2017), The Revenge of Robert the Doll (2018), Robert Reborn (2019), and the Scottish reboot from Shepka Productions (2026). Nathan Head played Officer Heinrich Berger in The Toymaker, and his character's death scene was reused in the fourth film. A US limited-edition box set of the first three entries came out on June 5th 2018 and the original five films appeared on Netflix UK in April 2022.
